      Ways to use this list

      • Castaway game: spin an island and each player names three things they would bring, thinking about its climate.
      • Globe skills: find the island, then name the ocean or sea around it and the nearest continent.
      • Island fact race for Year 5: look up which country the island belongs to and roughly how big it is; fastest correct answer wins.
      • Story starter: shipwreck your characters on the island you get, real or invented, and write about their first day.
      • Fantasy archipelago: press Fantasy islands, spin three names and draw a little island chain with a harbour, a peak and a hidden cove.

Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

      Questions people ask

Which is the largest island in the world?

Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. New Guinea comes second and Borneo third; press 10 largest to spin the top ten in order, which also includes Great Britain.

Why isn't Australia on the list of islands?

Australia is surrounded by water, but geographers count it as a continent, so it is not counted as an island. Tasmania, just off its south coast, is on the list instead.

Are island groups like the Galápagos included?

The list mostly names single islands, such as Sicily or Bali. A few famous groups, like the Galápagos Islands, appear because people think of them as one place; type in single islands such as Isabela if you need them.

Which island has the most people?

Java in Indonesia, home to more than half of all Indonesians, is the most populous island on Earth. Honshu in Japan comes second and Great Britain third.
