How the marble race works
- Add your names. Each one becomes a coloured marble.
- Start the race. The marbles set off from the top of a new zig-zag track.
- Watch the leaderboard. The top five update live as marbles overtake on the ramps.
- The first marble to the flag wins. With several winners, each gets its place number.
Why a marble race?
Marble races are oddly gripping: the lead changes on every ramp, and nobody can look away until the last bend. That makes them a great way to choose who goes first, who wins a small prize, or the order of a game, in class, at home or on a stream.
Fair, and quick to share
Like every game here, the winner is chosen fairly before the animation, with your browser's secure random
generator. Extra chances (Name *2) work too. Use fullscreen for a projector, or the share button to send
the race to someone else with the same names. How the picking works.
Prefer another kind of race? Try the duck race or the horse, car and snail race.
Questions people ask
Is the marble race random?
Yes. The finishing order is decided with your browser's secure random generator before the marbles start rolling, so every marble has the same chance. The overtaking on the way down is just for fun.
How many marbles can race?
Up to 30, one per name, each in its own colour. For bigger lists the picker switches to Quick pick, or use names in a hat.
Is the track the same every time?
No. Every race gets a new run of three to five ramps, so it never looks quite the same.
Can I see who is winning during the race?
Yes. The leaderboard in the corner shows the top five as they roll, and the commentary calls out each new leader.
Can I have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place?
Set Winners to 3 in Settings. The marbles cross the finish in that order and show their place numbers.
