      Questions people ask

Which is the highest mountain in the world?

Mount Everest, on the border of Nepal and China, at 8,849 metres above sea level as measured in 2020. Measured from its base on the sea floor, Mauna Kea in Hawaii is taller, at more than 10,000 metres, but most of it is underwater.

      What are the Seven Summits?

The highest mountain on each continent: Everest, Aconcagua, Denali, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Vinson and, for Australia, either Kosciuszko or Puncak Jaya, depending on whether you count the mainland or all of Oceania. The quick button includes both, so it has eight peaks.

Why does Denali have two names?

The mountain was named Mount McKinley for many years and officially renamed Denali, its Koyukon Athabascan name, in 2015. In 2025 the US government changed its federal name back to Mount McKinley while Alaska kept Denali, so the list shows both.

Which is the highest mountain in the UK?

Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, at 1,345 metres. The highest in England is Scafell Pike, and in Wales it is Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon.
