      Ways to use this list

      • Rainy Saturday: tap Bake with kids and spin, then let them weigh, stir, roll and scrape the bowl.
      • One new skill a month: spin Weekend challenge and keep practising that bake until the third try beats the first.
      • Bake sale planning: spin six ideas so the stall has a mix of tray bakes, biscuits and something savoury.
      • Use what is in the cupboard: delete anything that needs an ingredient you lack, then spin whatever is left.
      • Baking club: everyone makes the same spin at home and brings it along, so you can taste the results side by side.

Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

      Questions people ask

What can I bake with only basic ingredients?

Shortbread needs just butter, sugar and flour. Scones and rock cakes add milk or an egg, flapjacks are oats, butter, sugar and golden syrup, and soda bread is flour, bicarbonate of soda, salt and buttermilk, with no yeast at all.

What is the easiest thing to bake for a beginner?

Flapjacks, shortbread and muffins are hard to get wrong, and focaccia is the friendliest first bread: no kneading skill needed, just a wet dough left to rise in the tin. Tap Beginner bakes for the full set.

What temperature should I bake chicken breast at?

A common guide is 200°C (180°C fan, 400°F) for 20 to 25 minutes, until the thickest part reaches 74°C (165°F) inside. Salmon fillets take about 12 to 15 minutes at the same heat, and a large baked potato about an hour.

What should I bake with children?

Pick bakes with short oven times and plenty of mixing, rolling or decorating: rock cakes, jam tarts, gingerbread people and pizza. Older children can try scones or soft pretzels, which teach them how to shape a dough.
