      Ways to use this list

      • Rhyme race: spin a word and everyone writes as many rhymes as they can in 30 seconds. For young children, made-up rhymes like "zat" count too.
      • Couplet challenge: spin a word from Songs and poems and write two lines that end in rhymes from its family, like dream and stream.
      • Songwriting: set Winners to 2 and build a verse with two rhyme sounds, alternating the line endings in an ABAB pattern.
      • Phonics for kids: press Word families (kids), spin, then swap the first letter to make new words: cat, hat, bat, mat.
      • Clap and rhyme circle: sit in a circle, clap a steady beat and each person adds a rhyme for the spun word until someone gets stuck.

Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

      Questions people ask

Can I type in a word and get rhymes for it?

Not on this page: it spins words from its own list and shows the answers in the full list below. If your word is not there, try swapping its first sound for every letter of the alphabet, which is how most rhymes are found.

What is the difference between a perfect rhyme and a near rhyme?

A perfect rhyme matches the vowel and every sound after it, like light and bright. A near rhyme only comes close, like home and stone. Songwriters use near rhymes all the time when a perfect one would sound forced.

Which English words have no rhyme?

Orange, silver, purple and month are famous for having no common perfect rhyme. Poets get round it with near rhymes, or by ending the line on a different word.

Why do some rhyming words have different spellings?

English spells the same sound in several ways, so blue, through, shoe and flew all rhyme. The Word families (kids) set keeps the same spelling for early readers; Songs and poems mixes spellings for writers.
