Ways to use this list
- Dog drawing club: spin a breed, study a photo for one minute, then draw it from memory, paying attention to its ears, coat and tail.
- Breed detective: one player spins while the others look away, then gives clues such as "bred to chase badgers" (the Dachshund) until someone guesses.
- Class research: with Remove the winner on, every pupil gets a different breed and reports on the country it comes from and the job it was bred for.
- Story heroes: spin two breeds for a pair of characters, such as a Bloodhound detective and a big-eared Papillon who hears every secret.
- Dreaming of a dog one day? Spin a few breeds and compare how big each grows, how much exercise it needs and how often its coat wants brushing.
- Sort by job: press Herding dogs or Hounds and talk about why a Border Collie stares at sheep while a Beagle follows its nose.
Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you
like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the
chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

Questions people ask
How many dog breeds are there?
It depends on who is counting. The American Kennel Club recognises about 200 breeds, and the FCI, the world federation of kennel clubs, lists more than 350. This wheel keeps 60 well-known ones, so every result is a dog people can picture.
Which is the most popular dog breed?
In the United States the Labrador Retriever topped the American Kennel Club ranking for 31 years in a row, until the French Bulldog took first place in 2022. Labradors remain among the favourites in the UK, Canada and Australia.
What is the smallest dog breed, and the biggest?
The Chihuahua is the smallest breed, usually under 3 kg (6 lb). The Irish Wolfhound and the Great Dane are the tallest, while a male Saint Bernard or Newfoundland can weigh over 60 kg (130 lb).
Can the dog breed wheel show pictures?
Yes, with your own photos. Open ๐ผ๏ธ Photos and add a picture named after a breed, such as border-collie.jpg, and it appears with that breed. Photos stay in your browser and are never uploaded.
