      Ways to use this list

      • Toddler sound game: press Animal sounds, spin, and the child copies the noise or finds the matching toy from the farm set.
      • Farmyard song verses: let the wheel choose which animal comes next in a farm song, and the child leads the sound for that verse.
      • What does the farm give us? Spin an animal and name what it provides, from wool and milk to eggs, honey or help pulling a cart.
      • Farm animal names: spin an animal and give it a name with the same first letter, such as Penny the Pig or Gus the Goose.
      • Breed research for older pupils: press Famous breeds and find where each began, such as the Shetland pony from the islands north of mainland Scotland.

Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

      Questions people ask

What are baby farm animals called?

A cow has a calf, a pig a piglet, a sheep a lamb and a goat a kid. Horses and donkeys have foals, ducks have ducklings, geese have goslings and turkeys have poults. Press Baby animals for the full list.

What is the difference between a llama and an alpaca?

Llamas are about twice the size of alpacas, with long, banana-shaped ears, and are often used to carry loads. Alpacas are smaller, with short, pointed ears, and are kept mainly for their soft fleece. Both come from the Andes mountains of South America.

Is a mule a horse or a donkey?

A bit of both: a mule has a donkey father and a horse mother. Mules are strong, sure-footed and patient, which is why they have carried loads along steep mountain paths for thousands of years.

Do cows really have four stomachs?

A cow has one stomach split into four parts, each with its own job. It swallows grass, later brings it back up as cud to chew again, and tiny microbes inside help break it down. Sheep and goats digest their food the same way.

What is a group of farm animals called?

Cows and goats live in a herd, while sheep, chickens and ducks form a flock. Geese are a gaggle on the ground and a skein when they fly in a V. A group of pigs can be called a drove, and horses kept together a herd.

Why do roosters crow in the morning?

Studies show a rooster's body clock tells it dawn is coming, so it often crows before any light appears. Roosters also crow during the day to announce themselves, and the top bird in a flock usually crows first while the others wait their turn.
