Ways to use this list
- Freeze dance with a twist: when the music stops, spin a move, and everyone does it as soon as the music starts again.
- Dance battle at a party: each dancer spins two moves and has to link them into an eight-count routine.
- PE dance unit: put four spins in a row and the class learns them as a short routine, adding one move per lesson.
- Family party floor-filler: show the spin on a big screen and the whole room does the move together.
- Retro night: press Retro dances and older relatives teach the younger ones how the twist or the hand jive goes.
Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you
like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the
chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

Questions people ask
What is the most popular dance move?
There is no official count, but the robot, the moonwalk, the twist and the floss are known almost everywhere. The floss spread through school playgrounds around 2017 and 2018.
What are some weird dance move names?
Plenty of moves are named after everyday things: the sprinkler, the shopping cart, the lawnmower, the mashed potato and the hitchhike. Each name is a clue to the move, which makes them fun to guess.
How do you do the sprinkler?
Put one hand behind your head, stretch the other arm out in front and move it across in small jerky steps like a garden sprinkler, then sweep it back. Add a little hop on each step if you like.
Can beginners do these dance moves?
Most of them, yes. The step touch, grapevine and box step are the first steps many dance classes teach; leave the worm and the six-step for soft floors and confident movers.
What does an eight-count mean in dance?
Dancers count music in groups of eight beats, usually two bars of a pop song, and a teacher calls "five, six, seven, eight" so everyone starts together. Building a routine eight counts at a time makes it easier to learn, link and remember.
