Ways to use this list
- Flashcard streak: spin a word, say the English meaning out loud, then check it in the list below. Keep a tally of how many you get right in a row.
- Two-player duel: one person spins and reads the Spanish word, the other has five seconds to answer in English, then swap roles.
- Songwriting in Spanish: spin three words and write a short chorus that uses them all; sol, playa and feliz make an easy summer song.
- Draw and say: press Animals, spin, and pupils draw the animal on mini whiteboards before saying its Spanish name.
- El or la: read only the noun, hide the article, and let the class decide whether it takes el or la before you check.
Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you
like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the
chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

Questions people ask
Why does the list say el agua when agua is feminine?
Feminine nouns that begin with a stressed "a" sound take el in the singular, simply because "la agua" is awkward to say. Agua stays feminine, so it is el agua fría, and las aguas in the plural.
Why is la mano feminine if it ends in -o?
Most Spanish nouns ending in -o are masculine and most ending in -a are feminine, but there are exceptions. La mano (the hand) is feminine and el día (the day) is masculine, which is why it pays to learn every noun with its article.
Why is fish el pez and not el pescado?
Spanish uses two words. El pez is a live fish swimming in water, and el pescado is fish that has been caught to eat. A pet goldfish is un pez, but the fish on your dinner plate is pescado.
Do Spanish colors change with the noun?
Many do. Colours ending in -o change to -a with feminine nouns (el libro rojo, la mesa roja), and most add -s in the plural. Azul, verde and gris stay the same for both genders.
