Ways to use this list
- Game masters: spin a monster for a surprise encounter, then decide whether the party can fight it, outwit it or simply make friends with it.
- Art class: spin an original monster, read its one-line description in the list, and draw it without looking anything up.
- Halloween party: each guest spins a monster and has one minute to act it out while the others guess which one it is.
- Young writers: press Cute monsters and write about a monster who is scared of children, a gentle twist on the usual tale.
Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you
like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the
chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

Questions people ask
Are these monsters from a game or a cartoon?
The originals were invented for this page, each with a one-line idea. The classic set uses only old, shared monsters such as ghosts, mummies and trolls that belong to nobody.
Are the monsters too scary for young children?
They are made for primary-age imaginations: odd and funny more than frightening. The Cute monsters button is the gentlest set, made for drawing and bedtime stories.
How do I invent my own monster?
Mix an ordinary thing with an unexpected habit: a sock thief, a teacup goblin, a hiccup dragon. Then add one weakness so heroes have a way to win, such as a fog wraith that fades in sunshine.
Where can I find creatures from myths instead?
The mythical creature generator has dragons, kelpies, kitsune and 49 more beings from real folklore, with where each one comes from.
