      Ways to use this list

      • Career day: each student researches what a day in the job looks like, then shares one surprising detail, such as the very early start a baker needs.
      • Role play: act out a customer and a worker in the job you spin, such as a pet owner at the vet or a passenger asking the pilot about the weather.
      • Community helpers unit: press Community helpers at circle time, and children name a tool the helper uses, like a hose, a stethoscope or a mail bag.
      • Story writing: give a character the job the wheel picks plus one problem at work, such as a beekeeper whose bees have escaped into a school sports day.
      • Drawing prompts: draw yourself doing the job in 20 years, including the clothes, tools and place of work it needs.
      • What's my job? One player spins in secret and the others ask yes-or-no questions, such as "Do you work outdoors?", until they guess it in 20 questions or fewer.

Press Spin the wheel, tap the game or press the Space bar. Change the list in the box as you like: add your own, delete what doesn't suit you, or write *2 after an entry to give it double the chance. The game buttons switch the same list to a duck race, hat, claw machine and more.

      Questions people ask

Can I add jobs from my own area?

Yes. Add the jobs people do near you, such as bus driver, hairdresser, postal worker or shopkeeper, one per line, then press ๐Ÿ’พ Save. Local jobs make career talks feel real to children.

Can each student get a different job?

Yes. Jobs never double up, because No repeats until everyone is picked is on from the start: spin once per student, and with 60 jobs on the list even two classes together get one each. If you would rather see each taken job vanish from the wheel, pick Remove the winner in Settings.

Is it good for younger children?

Yes. Press Community helpers for the jobs young children meet in daily life, then turn on the duck race and let them guess what the winner does all day. The short description beside each job in the list below gives you a simple answer to read out.

Which jobs on the list take the longest training?

Doctors usually train the longest: a medical degree of four to six years, then several more years of hospital training before they work on their own. Vets, dentists, architects and pharmacists also study for five years or more. Many trades, such as electrician, plumber and carpenter, are learned through apprenticeships of three to five years, earning while you train.

Why do some jobs have different names in the UK and the US?

British and American English often differ. A postal worker is a postman or postwoman in the UK and a mail carrier in the US; a lawyer may be a solicitor or barrister in the UK and an attorney in the US; and the person who tests your eyes is often called an optician in the UK. Everyone shortens veterinarian to vet.

What is the difference between a job and a career?

A job is the work you do now, while a career is the path of jobs you follow over many years, often in one field. A nurse might later train as a midwife or run a hospital ward, and a carpenter might go on to run a building firm: one career, several jobs.
